Some of the critical functionalities that DMS enables are - a) helping provide a personalized device, content purchase experience right from the instant the customer ordered the device, b) enabling registration of the device (aka device-account creation) to the customer, c) handling security of the device by managing device credentials and device authentication and d) managing the complete lifecycle of the device and the device account.

Automation team of Kindle Store develops test frameworks and test scripts to enable 1000s of test cases to run on different devices and on the browser using User Agents. Besides the UI level automation, the framework talks to a host of backend services to validate the test result and go deep into locating the cause of failure.
